Music was good, but...
The music, of course, was wonderful. Much to our dismay, we paid $200 for second row seats. Note to Beacon Theatre: You need to let customers know when vision will be obstructed, and offer discounts. A movie of a medieval feast, which went on and on until I could hardly stand it - I had to close my eyes. I don't think I will ever love the CDs quite as much as I did before.
Others in the audience were grumbling as well. We could not see the composer/keyboardist, or the horn section. The images were blurred, adding insult to injury - I don't know if that was because we were in the second row. However, for much of the show, there was a movie screen lowered over the stage and the musicians that showed videos that were at best, barely tolerable.
Note to Jacob Collier: You need to think of the whole audience, or set up the seating to avoid disappointment such as we experienced. Your show - lights, videos, etc. - seems tailored to be viewed from a distance. Note to Beacon Theatre: There are many in the audience in good, expensive seats close to the stage. You need to let customers know when vision will be obstructed, and offer discounts. And make sure they are not blurry! Also - think about eliminating, or at least replacing, the corny movies.
